WINNING COMBINATION
24.01.2012

Following last week's heats, the Final of the My Ani-Mall Golden Maiden was run at Gawler greyhounds on Tuesday.

One of the three heat winners, Tom's Turmoil from box 1 was out the fastest, from Cussler (7) and Sheza Neo (8). Tom's Turmoil was able to open up a good 3 length break down the back straight. At this stage, Sheza Neo and Cussler, who had both got back in the field, were running on well, but still 5 lengths off the lead.

In the straight, Sheza Neo and Cussler continued to make up ground, but they had left their run too late. Tom's Turmoil was too good, winning in the time of 23.09 secs, with the margins 3 lengths and a further half length separating the minors.

Cussler finished in second place for trainer Murray Harvey of Lewiston, and Sheza Neo ran third for Bob Harris of Murray Bridge.
The win of Tom's Turmoil continued the good run that the combination of trainer Chris Martin and owners Barry and Tanya Braithwaite have enjoyed recently with their greyhounds. Tanya is Chris's sister, so it is a family affair.

Tom's Turmoil, known as Bluey, was purchased less than 4 weeks ago, and has now had 4 starts for the new combination for 2 important wins and 2 placings. Barry searches out the greyhounds to purchase and said that in his opinion Bluey had run some good times at Horsham, but was running too wide, and needed another track.

Winning the $2300 Golden Maiden was the best race money they had won and also the first trophy. Barry said they were all "having a ball, and always looking for new opportunities". They did have another runner in the race, Danzin Fool, but unfortunately she finished in 7th position. Chris who has only the three Braithwaite greyhounds in work, said he was happy to just see them go round and finish sound every week.

In a day of keenly contested racing, the winners were evenly distributed with no trainer recording multiple wins.

Afternoon racing is on again at Gawler on Friday and Tuesday, and the next Sunday twilight is on 5th February.
